Local 1171 Annual Barbecue Over 200 Fire Fighters, their friends and families attended the Annual Union Barbecue on Sunday, September 7 at St. Clares Church on Washington Street. There was a bounce house for the kids and plenty of visiting and chatting going on as on-duty crews from C-Shift circulated in and out during the day. The event was highlighted by a lifetime achievement award for dedicated service to former Volunteer Division Chief Ted Rose who recently retired from the volunteers. Thanks to all who attended and worked the barbecue, especially to Henry Machens who did such an outstanding job producing such a quality event. (Click on the thumbnails to enlarge.) True to form, retired Fire Captain and long-time Local 1171 member and Trustee John Costere could not resist pitching in and helping out.
City Council candidates John McLemore and Dominic Caserta were welcome guests and friends at the barbecue. John is certainly not a stranger to Local 1171. He has been the most faithful member of the City Council when it comes to attending our functions and listening to our needs. Local 1171 also looks forward to a long and healthy relationship with future Seat #2 City Councilman Caserta. Congratulating Chief Rose are volunteers Ken Clark and Henry Machens. Many thanks to our Mayor, Judy Nadler, who took time to make sure the fire fighters and volunteers know how much she appreciates their dedicated service to the citizens of the City of Santa Clara. 12/28/2002
