1171 General Election 2011
The 2011 Local 1171 General Election will be held on December 14(C-Shift going off duty), 15 (A-Shift going off) & 16 (B-Shift going off). Voting will take place at the union office from 0800-1000 each morning. Absentee ballots will be available by emailing me at iaff1171@comcast.net by Dec. 5th. As always, voting by proxy is not allowed.
Offices up for election are:
President: J.D. Madden and Dennis McDowell
Treasurer: Drew Miller (re-elected by acclimation)
A-Shift VP: Jenn DaCunha and Casey Potts
B-Shift VP: Mike Barnes and Craig McFarlane
C-Shift VP: Rob Contreras (re-elected by acclimation)
Fire Prevention VP: Steve Silva (re-elected by acclimation)
Trustee: Dave Battagin (re-elected by acclimation)
Additionally, there will be a vote on the proposed TV Club due increase. You can download the information here.
In addition to voting, there will be informational meetings each day regarding the other topic of this email, ongoing discussions with the city. The most fundamental responsibility of the Local 1171 Executive Board is to negotiate, maintain and enforce the terms of employment contained in our MOU. Obviously this involves a lot more than just salaries. Along with working to increase and maintain wages, your elected union representatives continually fight to preserve the benefits and privileges that we all enjoy. As you know, the fire department administration’s desire to address our current staffing shortage by hiring new employees has generated much debate and discussion. At one point it appeared that those discussions had ended, but for a number of reasons we believe that it is in our long-term best interest to continue them. As a result, we are continuing to meet with the city and we will use the informational meetings to update all of you on the progress of those talks. Hope to see you at the polls.
