WELCOME!

Welcome to the Santa Clara City Fire Fighter's, IAFF Local 1171  Website. We are proud to be an IAFF 2002 Award Winning Website.

We hope to be able to provide you with interesting, relevant information that you can use.  We also hope to continue building positive relationships with labor organizations, political organizations, the City of Santa Clara Administrators as well as the Santa Clara Fire Department Management Staff, and all others who are interested and committed to providing the highest possible level of professional services to the citizens of Santa Clara (our customers) and each other (our "internal" customers).

INSTRUCTIONS AND TIPS FOR USING LOCAL 1171'S WEBSITE

1) Hyperlinks - Hyperlinks (connections to other pages) are everywhere. Move the cursor (the little arrow) with your mouse and if it changes from an arrow to a hand, that's a hyperlink. Explore and follow where they take you. When you want to go back, point your cursor to "Back" usually found in the upper left hand corner of your browser. Or click on any left-frame table of contents topic. (Your browser is the software program, Netscape, Internet Explorer 4.0 or 5.0 etc., that lets you "surf" the net.)

NOTE: If you wish to bypass the homepage graphic screen, click on "Click Here for Headline News." This will take you to the sites top stories and the most important Local 1171 information.

2) Frames - Local 1171 uses what is known as "frames." You will see a small "box" on the left of your screen and immediately adjacent to it, on the right, a larger "box." These boxes are known as frames. You can navigate in several ways. The left-hand box is a table of contents, and the right-hand box is the contents.  Whenever the contents of any of the posted pages changes significantly, you will see the word, New! posted next to the headline.

3) Political Action – One of the primary uses of the Local’s website is for members to be able to participate in political action that favorably supports the positions of fire fighters at the Local, State and Federal level. Members of the Political Action Committee monitor the relevant political issues by maintaining access to the California Professional Firefighters political email service.

As we receive more input from members and get new ideas about better ways to do things, this page, as well as the website in general will be updated. Please check in here every-once-in-a-while and look for more tips or changes. (Significant updates will be marked with the word, New!.)

Many of the informational files that are posted on our website are kept as .pdf, or portable document files. In order to view them you must download Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you need the viewer for this file format, go to: Adobe Acrobat Reader

We welcome your comments, suggestions and ideas. Please contact me (Gary Niblock) via email if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer them or find the information for you. And even though this website is for the retired and active members of Local 1171, we would like any interested Fire Fighters to take advantage of what this website has to offer.

Thanks,

Gary Niblock, President
