Santa Clara City Fire
Fighters PAC Email Group
Becoming a member of the award winning Santa Clara City Fire Fighters PAC
Email Group is very simple, and very effective. You can make a difference in the
political lives of all California state fire fighters. Here's how it works...
I receive requests from the CPF to lobby our elected
representatives in Sacramento regarding fire fighter bill's that CPF supports or
sponsors.
I format the requests and send them to our "PAC Email Group"
volunteers who cut and paste the messages into their own email software. They
then send the messages to the pertinent political email recipients. Below, I
have an example of what the email messages I send out look like.
If you are interested in participating, please let me know and I will place your
name and HOME email address into the "PAC Email Group".
Thanks for your interest. This really is a dynamic way to lobby, and we (Santa
Clara City Fire Fighters) have been recognized by CPF as being very effective
lobbyist's for fire fighters by utilizing this system.
Take care, and thanks for your time,
Gary Niblock, President

Dear Mr. Speaker,
Yesterday, the Assembly approved CPF's co-sponsorship bill, SB 1409.
In allowing local CalPERS' contracting agencies to provide
a back-DROP supplemental retirement benefit to their safety employees, SB 1409
enables eligible employees to terminate employment and at the same time direct
CalPERS to calculate both their current retirement and subsequent retirement
benefit as if it occurred up to 5 years prior.
The DROP benefit for the years between the termination date
and selected retirement date would be calculated as if it had been accruing over
that period of time. The amount would then be paid to the employee as one
lump sum or in extra monthly payments in addition to their normal monthly
retirement allowance, if the member so chooses.
SB 1409 would also provide protection for employees who are
required to leave their job as a result of a disability. In such a case,
an injured firefighter would be eligible for disability retirement at the
disability retirement rate or he or she could take a calculated back-DROP
benefit, whichever is most beneficial.
Please vote AYE on SB 1409 when it is taken up on the Floor.
